Convert AVCHD to Apple built-in codec Apple Intermediate codec for iMovie

When your computer is installed with Mac OS X with iMovie, you can play .mov files with Apple Intermediate codec (AIC), which is designed by Apple, Inc. Even though AIC is not technically the uncompressed video codec, it works similarly to uncompressed video in iMovie as it will be natively supported by iMovie.

While editing with uncompressed videos or .mov with AIC, you can enjoy the highest video quality. If you are looking for uncompressed .mov as output codec for conversion from MTS to MOV, Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac is one of the only programs on Mac to open .mts and .m2ts files and convert them easily. The Mac AVCHD to AIC converter provides Apple built-in codec with .mov as file extension.

Since all Mac OS X software support QuickTime codec, Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express, iMovie can use Apple Intermediate codec. Here I would like to take the AVCHD files from Sony HDR-CX550 as an example, and convert MTS to AIC for iMovie.

Step 1. Transfer Sony videos to Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac.
Connect Sony HDR-CX550 to iMac, copy and transfer the .mts files from camcorder to Apple hard drive. You can also run Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac as the best AVCHD to MOV with apple built-in codec converter on Mac, and click the “Add” button to download .mts files from camcorder to the application.

Step 2. Choose AIC codec for Mac.
Click the “Format” option, and move mouse cursor to QuickTime Movie Format > Apple InterMediate Codec(AIC) (*.mov) as output format. The Mac MTS/M2TS to AIC converter will rewrap and transcode AVCHD files to MOV with the high quality apple built-in codec.

Step 3. Set 1920×1080 video size.
Click the “Settings” button and find the output video size option. Choose 1920*1080 as output video size to keep original 16:9 video.

Step 4. Convert Sony CX550 MTS to MOV with AIC for iMovie and FCE.
Click the convert button under the preview window, the Mac AVCHD to MOV with apple built-in codec converter will start converting Sony CX550 AVCHD MTS/M2TS to MOV with AIC like uncompressed video for iMovie, FCE, FCP.

After the conversion, just import the 1920×1080 videos to iMovie/FCE/FCP for editing in high quality as the alternative to uncompressed videos.

Tips:
If you missed the AIC codec or the output video does not include video, you may need to download and install Apple Intermediate codec from Apple official site.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC G10 is described by Panasonic as a micro system camera. It has a relatively small body size, but can accept interchangeable lenses in the same way a Digital SLR can. It also has a set of advanced features similar to those you would expect to find on a Digital SLR. Key features include 12 megapixels, a 3 inch LCD screen and a viewfinder. The viewfinder has dioptre correction for adjusting the focus of the viewfinder to suit your eyesight.

I like this camera and want to use Final Cut or iMovie to edit videos from Lumix DMC G10 and make some projects, However, my Final Cut and iMovie does not import the DMC- G10 Lumix AVCHD Lite Videos. Via Google, I find that Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac is the recommended program to convert Mac Panasonic G10 AVCHD Lite to ProRes/AIC MOV for Final Cut Studio or iMovie.

Here is the step-by-step guide for you to import and edit Panasonic DMC-G10 Lumix AVCHD Lite to Final Cut or iMovie with Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac on iMac/MacBook Pro.

Step1. Capture and import 720p AVCHD Lite files directly from Panasonic Lumix G10 to Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac.
Click “Wizard” and all footages of your camcorder will be showed on the Camcorder window. Then click Next button and choose Import instead of Backup to import Panasonic G10 AVCHD Lite files to Final Mate for Mac more quickly. After this, imported footages will be lying in camcorder tab.

Step2. Create a Movie for merging/converting Panasonic G10 720p AVCHD Lite files to ProRes/AIC.
There are two ways for you to create a Movie for converting imported 720p MTS files. –The easiest one is dragging and dropping displayed AVCHD Lite files from Camcorder Tab area to a single Movie.

-Another way is clicking the drop-down button of “Add Movie” icon and choose “For Conversion” to create a blank movie. And then drag and drop the video clips from Camcorder Tab to the blank movie in Movies Tab. In this way, all video clips will be merged as one single movie for conversion.

Step3. Export ProRes or AIC video file for Final Cut Studio or iMovie.
Click the Export button and choose “Export into Editor”. Follow Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 HQ (*.mov) or QuickTime Movie Format > Apple Intermediate Codec (*.mov) to choose output format for editing in Final Cut or iMovie. And then set the video size to 1080*720 for keeping original high resolution. Finally click OK to start converting/merging 720p AVCHD Lite to ProRes/AIC.

After converting the AVCHD Lite files, just import the output files to Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express(FCE) 4) or iMovie 8/9/11 and the video is in HD 1280*720.
